Getting local arts and events back together in-person & on-site! Māngere Ōtāhuhu Arts

It's been a long while since we've been able to bring the local arts & creative community back together in person!  In this newsletter I'm sharing with you some of the challenges our supported projects have faced in these times. I'm also sending an open invitation for you all to learn about our current projects and events taking place in-person & on-site!

It felt like endless months of event rescheduling, often multiple time and to uncertain dates. Performance rehearsals and artwork production were placed on long term hold, while we all navigated the framework levels and adjusted to their impact.   I want to acknowledge the dedication and commitment shown by our local creatives, who despite the challenges found a way to provide positive and creative connections to each other during these times.  For example Polynesian Entertainers produced the first ever Siva Afi Festival Online, seen by several thousand viewers over a weekend in March.   While Lighthouse Famz live-streamed their Beatdown event for the first time.   They led the way with their digital capabilities and reached new audiences to share and celebrate local arts & culture.

It's with huge relief that our Māngere Ōtāhuhu Arts supported projects that were placed on hold, are now underway again!  Read on our newsletter to learn more and keep an eye on our social pages for further updates.

I'm grateful to our Māngere Ōtāhuhu Local Board and local creatives for the projects we've been able to support, ensuring that Māngere Ōtāhuhu Arts is able to provide positive and creative connections to each other during these challenging times.  I am also well aware of the impact COVID-19 has on the arts sector and if you are struggling with anything to do with your creative practice, I'm happy to lend a friendly ear or face at anytime. I'm also over on Facebook and Instagram posting opportunities, support options and events for creatives - so come and join me.

Kia haumaru te noho ……be safe.
Aroha nui, nā mātou
