The Māngere Ōtāhuhu Arts website Noticeboard and E-Newsletter is a place for creative artists, groups and organisations in the local area to share, seek, promote, and post a "call-out" to the local community.
You can submit your notice for either the Noticeboard, or the monthly E-Newsletter or both. We'll also endeavour to share your notice on the Māngere Ōtāhuhu Arts Facebook page if you like.

EXHIBITION / He Toa! He Wahine! at Mangere Arts Centre

A celebration of wahine rangatira of Tainui. 

This exhibition aligns with three important kaupapa of 2018; 125 years of wahine voting in Aotearoa, 160 years of Kiingitanga and celebrating the Matariki season and Māori New Year. He

He Toa! He Wahine! honours seven female rangatira of Tainui descent. The seven leaders include Princess Te Puea Herangi, Piupiu Te Wherowhero, Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, Nanaia Mahuta, and the three current chairs of Tainui tribal leadership, all wahine toa.

The exhibition features significant artefacts and artworks that demonstrate the legacies and strength of these wahine toa. Including ephemera, photography, quotations, works by Fred Graham, Val Deane, song lyrics and audio recordings.
